The David and Lucille Packard Foundation has hired Nancy Lindborg as president and CEO, effective August.
For the last five years, Lindborg has been president and chief executive of the United States Institute of Peace, a nonpartisan federal organization dedicated to preventing and resolving violent conflicts around the globe.
Lindborg brings decades of government and public service experience to the Packard Foundation, having served as assistant administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance at the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as spending 15 years as president of Mercy Corps. She previously worked as a consultant specializing in energy conservation, land use and environmental issues.
The foundation describes itself as working with partners around the world toward social, cultural and environmental change designed to improve the lives of children, families and communities.
