Time announced several new hires and promotions this week: Katherine Pomerantz was named director of multimedia; Sam Lansky became West Coast editor; Jamie Ducharme, a former Boston magazine health editor, joined Time as a reporter, covering fitness, nutrition, healthcare, and hospitals; Michael Zennie joined the News Desk as Senior Editor; Julie Shapiro was promoted to deputy editor of Time.com; Ashley Knierim became director of editorial operations; Andrew Katz became deputy director of multimedia; Alice Park was promoted to senior writer; Alex Fitzpatrick and Liz Murray were named deputy directors of news; Mandy Oaklander became editor of the Time Inc. Health Digital Desk; Ashley Hoffman was promoted to newsfeed editor; staff writer Nash Jenkins was named Washington correspondent; Justin Worland joined the Washington bureau as a staff writer to cover the EPA and climate and environmental issues; Kate Samuelson joined the London bureau as a reporter; and Talia Avakian, formerly a reporter for Business Insider, joined Time as a reporter.
Brooke Ely Danielson joined Shape magazine as fashion and lifestyle director. She was previously accessories editor for Vogue.com.
Nancy Shute was named editor-in-chief for Science News. She was previously a writer for NPR and editor at U.S. News & World Report. She will join the Science News team on February 1, 2018.

Washington Post announced that Max Bearak, currently writing for the paper’s “WorldViews” blog, was named Africa bureau chief, effective March 2018. He succeeds Kevin Sieff, who was named Latin America correspondent earlier this month.
The New York Times announced that Arthur Gregg “A.G.” Sulzberger will become the publisher of The New York Times on January 1, 2017, succeeding his father, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr.
Non-U.S. Media
At the Guardian, John Mulholland was named editor of Guardian U.S., succeeding editor Lee Glendinning, who led the newsroom since 2015.
Philip Campbell, editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Nature, announced his departure from the journal in the summer of 2018 to join Springer Nature as editor-in-chief.
At the Financial Times, Neil Munshi was appointed West Africa correspondent and will be based in Lagos, Nigeria. He currently serves as a reporter in the New York bureau.

Former Quartz Talent Lab editor Kira Bindrim was promoted to managing editor.
At HuffPost, Hillary Frey was promoted to executive editor.
Networks
ESPN President John Skipper resigned from his position, citing a substance addiction problem.
NPR announced that starting January 17, 2018, Mary Louise Kelly will become a co-host for NPR’s “All Things Considered,” along with Audie Cornish and Ari Shapiro. Mary Louise Kelly succeeds Kelly McEvers, who will step down as co-host of the show, but continue as host and executive producer of NPR’s “Embedded” podcast.
Jesse Rodriguez and Sarah Baker were named directors of booking at MSNBC.

Starting next week, Bloomberg News will start offering a 24-hour news service on Twitter called “TicToc by Bloomberg.” The service is headed by Mindy Massucci, who was previously in charge of U.S. Live TV on Bloomberg Television.
The Associated Press named Janelle Cogan deputy director of storytelling for the U.S. South, based in Atlanta.
