Dow Jones & Company announced today that Matt Murray, the current executive editor of The Wall Street Journal, will succeed Gerard Baker as editor-in-chief of the WSJ and Dow Jones Newswire. Gerard Baker, who has led the paper since 2013, will become an editor-at-large and a columnist.
The change will take effect on June 11, 2018.
Murray started his career with the Wall Street Journal in 1994 as a reporter and was later named deputy editor for Workplace and Management. From 2008 to 2011 Murray served as deputy managing editor and then as national editor from 2011 to 2012, overseeing the International Desk. Murray was named deputy editor in chief in 2013 and was promoted to executive editor in 2017.
In addition to his lengthy career at Dow Jones, Murray is the author of The Father and the Son and the co-author, with former New York City Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, of Strong of Heart.
