Rep. Kay Granger
Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX, 12th) is set to become the Ranking Minority Member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee for the next Congress. On Thursday, the Republican Steering Committee recommended Granger to serve as the party’s top member over Reps. Rob Aderholt (R-AL, 4th), Tom Cole (R-OK, 4th) and Tom Graves (R-GA, 14th) in a contested race for the position.
With Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY, 17th) set to serve as chairwoman, it will be the first time the House Appropriations Committee will be led by two women.
The House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for approving government funding, is one of the most powerful and influential committees on the Hill.
