Courtney Piron

Novartis AG hired industry veteran Courtney Piron to join its Washington office as head of public affairs in North America. Previously, she handled federal government affairs for one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the country, AbbVie Inc.

In terms of activities on Capitol Hill, per the most recently available lobbying reports, there is a good amount of crossover between congressional bills that Piron lobbied on while at AbbVie, and those lobbied on by the government affairs staff at Novartis. This includes the Lower Health Care Costs Act (S.1895) sponsored by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN,) the FAIR Generics Act (H.R.1506) sponsored by Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-CA,) and more.

There is also Piron’s years of experience in the healthcare sector. Before a couple years at AbbVie, she was head of the global healthcare practice at public affairs agency APCO Worldwide, and spent a combined 11 years handling health and economic policies at Pfizer Inc.

Piron currently serves on the boards of the Public Affairs Council and HealthCare Institute of New Jersey.

As an aside, Novartis will also be on hand at the healthcare industry’s biggest event, the 38th annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. It starts today and is streaming here.
