Beverly A. Kopper will step down as the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Dec. 31.

Beverly Kopper

Kopper’s resignation, announced in an open letter to the school, follows an embattled year for her chancellorship, which saw her husband being banned from the school campus following multiple sexual harassment allegations. Pete Hill held an honorary unpaid position in the Chancellor’s office until three women came forward to report a pattern of unwanted touching and sexual comments. Hill was stripped of his advisory position and banned from the campus in June of this year.

Kopper, who was appointed Chancellor in 2015 after serving for six years as the school’s Provost, cooperated with the investigation and the University System, although her resignation letter makes no mention of the issue. Her resignation is one of two scandals currently facing the UW System. UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow was reprimanded by System President Ray Cross in November for inviting a porn star to campus as a paid speaker.
