White House Homeland Security Advisor Thomas Bossert will be leaving his position.
The news comes one day after John Bolton officially began his new position as assistant to the president for national security affairs, serving as Bossert’s direct superior.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denied rumors that Bossert was fired, saying in the daily press briefing that Bossert had chosen to resign.
Bossert, who worked for the Homeland Security Council during the George W. Bush administration, has served as assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism since the beginning of Donald Trump’s presidential term.
