On March 28th, President Trump announced his intention to nominate Physician to the President Ronny L. Jackson to be the next secretary of Veterans Affairs, replacing David Shulkin.
Jackson, whom the president recently nominated for promotion to rear admiral (upper half), has 13 years of active duty naval experience.
Jackson also served as physician to the president under Barack Obama and as a White House physician under George W. Bush.
Pending Jackson’s confirmation, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Robert Wilkie, Jr. will serve as acting secretary. Prior to assuming his Defense Department position, Wilkie served as a senior advisor to Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
